Admission Requirements – SLI

Successful applicants are required to be registered as a medical student or as a postgraduate trainee in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.  Applicants should have graduated from a 4-year undergraduate program with at least a B+ standing in the last two years of study from an accredited university.

Undergraduate Medical Students

Applicants who are registered as undergraduate medical students in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, will register as a part-time student and provide the following documents as part of the online SGS application system:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    A two-page curriculum vitae (CV) that provides a summary of academic and leadership experience, including:

    • Undergraduate and graduate education (i.e. degree(s), scholarships or awards)
    • Paid employment history (role, organization and duration)
    • Volunteer service history (role, organization and duration)
    • Accomplishments in athletics, the arts or other domains that reflect leadership and teamwork
  2. Leadership Experience
    Three brief summaries of leadership experiences reported in the curriculum vitae (CV).
    Each of the three summaries should be no more than 120 words long.
    Focus should be on team work, creative problem solving, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and environments.
  3. Vision Statement
    A brief statement of leadership goals and career aspirations:
    The vision statement should not be longer than 500 words
    Focus should be on future vision and social responsibility
  4. Two (2) Confidential Letters of Reference
    These references will be provided by Dr. Geoff Anderson and Dr. Isser Dubinsky, on review of your documents.  Please do not contact the referees directly.

Postgraduate Trainees

Applicants who are postgraduate trainees in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto,  can register as either part-time or full-time students and provide the following documents as part of the online SGS application system:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    A two-page curriculum vitae (CV) that provides a summary of academic and leadership experience.
  2. Letter of Intent
    The letter of intent should outline your interest in leadership and innovation aspirations, learning goals, research interests, and experience relevant to leadership and innovation.
  3. Two (2) Confidential Letters of Reference
    Two confidential letters of reference from academic and/or professional supervisors that indicate to the admissions committee the applicant’s academic ability and career aspirations and a comment on the student’s potential benefit from the System Leadership and Innovation MSc.
  4. Transcripts
