Applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Health Certificate
March 2020 (4 Fridays)
Registration to open in December 2019
This certificate program will prepare learners to apply innovations in AI for health. Learners will gain an understanding of fundamental concepts of AI, current applications and emerging trends of AI for health, and a practical understanding of how to implement AI for health. The differentiation of this certificate program from other AI certificate programs is that it will be specific to health applications and will focus on how to implement AI innovations to improve the health of patients and other consumers. That is, it will not cover in depth AI material taught traditionally in Engineering or Computer Science. Instructors will be those with real-life experience in applying AI for health.
Masterclass in Sustainable Healthcare
Climate change is recognized as the greatest threat to global health in the 21st century (Lancet, 2018; WHO, 2015; UCL/Lancet Commission, May 2009). Canada’s healthcare system is a large, resource-intensive sector of the Canadian economy, responsible for at least 4.6% of national carbon dioxide emissions annually (Eckelman, 2018). While the sector dedicated to extending and improving our quality of life is a significant contributor to a phenomenon putting human health at risk, there is a significant opportunity for the health sector to develop and implement sustainability interventions that protect, promote, and prioritize health.
Day One will provide an introduction to the relationship between health systems and environmental sustainability, and explore the application of principles of adaptive leadership to sustainability challenges.
Day Two will provide a solid understanding of how foundational concepts and tools of quality improvement can be used to address sustainability challenges in healthcare.
Continuing education and professional development programs do not count towards a graduate degree, but may contribute to credits from the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. See individual programs for details.
Leading Transformation: Building Adaptive Capacity
The goal of this program is to facilitate the building of adaptive capacity within healthcare systems by deepening the practice of developing both ourselves and others intentionally, mindfully and creatively.

Honing Your Dialogue Skills with Crucial Conversations®
Dialogue is a critical leadership competency. The ability to elicit and appreciate a variety of perspectives allows leaders leverage the intelligence of the group when addressing adaptive challenges for which there are no technical fixes. Effective dialogue requires active listening, awareness of one’s inner process, respect for differing points of view, tolerance of ambiguity, speaking from the heart. The goal of this course is to enhance participants’ dialogue and engagement capabilities to create and sustain meaningful change.
Immunity to Change™
Adaptive challenges require the creation of new knowledge and the development of new capacities in individuals, teams and organizations. This course equips participants to identify and address those personal and collective changes that have proven resistant to thoughtful plans and heartfelt intentions using Kegan and Lahey’s Immunity to Change Model.
The practice of adaptive leadership requires the development of a new and enhanced ability to see, effectively analyze, and strategically intervene. This course further develops participants’ capability to reflect in action and intervene thoughtfully using mindfulness techniques.
