My long-term mission is to bring the power of Machine Learning (ML) and data science to health in order to improve the quality of care for patients and the working condition for health professionals. My exposure to health began in my master studies and my commitment to working with health teams evolved during my doctoral and postdoctoral research programs.

I am broadly interested in the application of ML in health problems that are either complex for the human brain to solve or operationally overwhelming. Specifically, I am focusing on the following two priority areas to improve the delivery of care for all stakeholders:

  • ML & complex health problems: advancing ML and big data analytics to better understand the pathways from health history to modifiable risk factors, especially for high-risk individuals or sub-populations, e.g. patients with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease.
  • ML & health sector efficiency: improving information management, expanding the availability of medical expertise, and optimizing the overwhelming storage of information for clinical databases, i.e. automating cleansing, annotating, and summarizing patient’s health records.
