Master of Science and Doctoral Programs
We deliver comprehensive, interdisciplinary curricula based on health policy, organization and management, e-health innovation and health services research. This is rigorous training for tomorrow’s health researchers that instills leadership readiness for whatever career paths are chosen — academics, research, clinical science, policy-making, administration.
Our collaborative relationships across University of Toronto and hospital-based research institutes support our position at the helm of emerging bodies of knowledge.
IHPME is responsible for more than $6M in annual research funding enabling our significant contribution within multiple arenas. Our faculty leads research in their fields and are committed to teaching, individual mentoring, and building research capacity. Our students consistently prove to be highly competitive in peer reviewed grant applications and publications.
Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research
Clinical epidemiology is the study of the determinants and effects of clinical decisions. IHPME leads this field. The CEHCR degree concentration offers a faculty of more than 80 leading clinical epidemiology researchers and collaborations within the University of Toronto and with affiliated teaching hospitals.

Health Services Research
IHPME offers the largest graduate program in health services research in English Canada. Primary areas of research include: Health Services Organization and Management, Health Policy, Health Services Outcomes and Evaluation, eHealth Innovation and Information Management, Health Economics, Health Technology Assessment.

Quality Improvement and Patient Safety
The concentration in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety provides MSc students with the opportunity to focus research and learning on all aspects of improvement science, current issues in healthcare quality and safety and relevant leadership and influencing skills.

System Leadership and Innovation
This new concentration was developed in cooperation with Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) in the Faculty of Medicine and offers leadership education through course work and practicums to UME students and PGME trainees at the University of Toronto.
