Research Interests

Dr. Llovet is a sociologist by training. His expertise is in the area of qualitative research methods and their application to the design and improvement of organized, large-scale cancer screening programs. He has led or collaborated with research projects covering a broad range of topics, including: the training needs of newly appointed clinical leads in the context of a major quality initiative in mammography; the development of effective audit and feedback interventions for practice improvement in endoscopy and primary care; barriers to timely and appropriate follow-up among patients with abnormal stool test results; effective health communication to promote the uptake of colorectal and cervical screening tests among eligible individuals; and the development of evidence and tools to help guide the design and implementation of a new lung cancer screening pilot for high risk persons in Ontario. Dr. Llovet has a strong interest in socio-behavioral theory and is experienced in the use of several qualitative research techniques, including in-depth and cognitive interviews, focus groups, modified-Delphi groups, content analysis of texts, and co-creation workshops.


Dr. Llovet is a Behavioral Scientist with the Cancer Screening Unit at Cancer Care Ontario, where he conducts original research to help support key objectives of each of the province’s organized cancer screening programs. As a researcher, he works closely with policy makers and stakeholders to ensure project alignment with cancer system needs and priorities and to maximize the chances of successful uptake of research findings among knowledge users. Dr. Llovet plays an important role in helping Cancer Care Ontario more actively engage with the broader community of socio-behavioral researchers and scientists who work within the university system. He is also committed to promoting careers in applied health research among advanced graduate students.
