Message from the Director

Welcome to the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, or as we refer to it, IHPME.

Over our Institute’s 75-year history, we have built an active and inclusive community of students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, stakeholders, and community partners. Our shared commitment to helping improve healthcare research, policy, leadership, and innovation in Canada has never been stronger.

Located in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, the Institute brings together leading scholars working in a range of fields including health policy, health services, health informatics, clinical epidemiology, economics, system leadership, organizational behaviour and management, health technology assessment and quality improvement in Canada. Our IHPME faculty account for millions of dollars in research funding each year and run expansive research programs which create a fertile learning environment for trainees. Our alumni go on to leadership positions throughout the healthcare system and remain actively involved in ensuring we achieve our goals. And our donors and partners continue to be very generous in terms of developing and supporting new initiatives and addressing the financial needs of our students.

Our students are undertaking cutting edge research and training and are skilled in the application of advanced methods to both improve population health and address the most important questions facing our health systems. Moreover, our students have a distinguished track record of receiving the top academic honours such as the Vanier Scholarships and the Governor General’s Gold Medal.

In 2022, IHPME launched an ambitious 5-year Strategic Plan aimed at ensuring we remain at the very forefront of health systems scholarship, research, teaching and training. As Institute Director, I have the privilege of having a front row seat to observe the dedication of our faculty, staff, and various partners to ensuring the continued excellence of our programs as well as the many accomplishments of our students. I have no doubt that together we can achieve the goals set our in our Strategic Plan and much more.

It is an honour to serve as our Institute’s Director and I cannot imagine a more exciting time to be involved in health systems research and leadership training. Come make a difference with us!

Warmly,
Prof. Audrey Laporte
