Student Workshop – Survey Methods for Health Systems Research: Theory and Application

Summary: Surveys of patients, caregivers, providers and other stakeholders are used in almost all clinical studies collecting data on patient outcomes. The talk will cover the most important areas of health survey methods including sampling strategy and sampling frame, survey errors, different survey modes with their advantages and disadvantages, the practical aspects of organizing and monitoring surveys, and analysis of survey data.Lusine Abrahamyan

Lusine Abrahamyan, MD MPH PhD is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME), University of Toronto and Clinical Epidemiologist at the Toronto Health Economics and Technology Assessment Collaborative (THETA). She obtained her medical degree from the Yerevan State Medical University (Armenia), Master in Public Health degree from the American University of Armenia, and PhD from the University of Toronto. Her past work was focused on evaluating methodological challenges in conducting randomized clinical trials in rare diseases and methods for developing quality indicators. Her current research interests are in health technology assessment and complex interventions. Lusine is teaching graduate courses in applied research methods, clinical epidemiology, systematic reviews, and health survey research methods.
