Economics of the Health Work Force in Bangladesh
Abstract: This paper will discuss the nature of the health workforce in Bangladesh with a focus on work force supply. After discussing contextual aspect of the economic and demographic shifts in the country, we will discuss conceptual linkages between the health workforce, medical care and health outcomes, and detail recent evidence supporting the linkages. We will then discuss recent evidence on supply and challenges within this context. The discussion will conclude with the development of collaboration with researchers in Bangladesh (Institute of Health Economic, Dhaka University) and potential research areas of interest.
Mofakhar Hussain (Mo) is senior economist with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Mo holds a Ph.D in health economics from the Graduate Center, The City University of New York (1998). Mo has had applied experience in the US health care sector including experiences with health insurance providers and prescription drug manufacturers. His research interests focuses on prescription drug pricing and reimbursement policies, statistical methods and strategic behavior in the health care sector.
