Tommy Douglas and the Quest for Medicare in Canada

IHPME invites you to the launch of Professor Emeritus Gregory P. Marchildon’s newest title exploring Tommy Douglas, regarded as the “Father of Medicare,” and his visionary leadership that laid the foundation for universal health coverage in Canada.

Tommy Douglas and the Quest for Medicare in Canada examines how comprehensive health care emerged during the 1930s Depression despite tremendous hardships and opposition experienced by the book’s titular subject, fellow reformers, and advocates at the hands of physician and business lobbies opposed to cost-sharing.

Join us for a discussion with the book’s author, followed by light refreshments. Copies of the book will also be available for sale, with a special 25% discount for those attending the event.
