Using Discrete Choice Experiments in Health Economics: Theoretical and Practical Issues

In publicly provided health care systems finite resources coupled with increasing demand for health care requires decisions about what is the most efficient allocation of scarce health care resources. This requires information about the costs and benefits of health care. Economic methods using discrete choice experiments provide an approach to value the trade-offs between health care benefits and risks. Given the increasing importance put on patient-centered care, and the recognised importance of valuing patient experiences in the delivery of health care, the application of discrete choice experiments (DCEs) in health is likely to increase. Professor Mandy Ryan, University of Aberdeen, and Deborah Marshall, University of Calgary will be presenting this workshop again based on the positive response to previous workshops (workshop will again be limited to 20 participants).

Location: Banff Conference Centre, Banff, Alberta
