Management of Nonurgent Interruptions in Intensive Care

April 15, 2015
Health Sciences Building room 412
3:00‐4:30 p.m.

Abstract: In Intensive Care Units (ICU), interruptions to nurses could convey important information
about the patient or work indirectly affecting the patient. Effective management of interruptions in
ICUs requires the understanding of interruption characteristics, the context in which interruptions
happen, and their content. In this talk, HCTP Doctoral Fellow Farzan Sasangohar (Mechanical &
Industrial Engineering, University of Toronto) will discuss a mixed method approach to design and
evaluate situation‐specific interruption mitigation tools in ICU. Dr. Kathleen Rice (Family and
Community Medicine, University of Toronto) is the discussant and HCTP Doctoral Fellow Daniel
Vena (Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering, University of Toronto) will moderate
the session. Please check the website for more information on Farzan’s seminar.
