Dr. Marissa Bird is a Registered Nurse and Scientist in the Learning Health System Program at the Institute for Better Health, Trillium Health Partners. Dr. Bird is a recognized scholar in the fields of health innovation, Learning Health Systems, co-design, and evaluation. She is co-founder of the Learning Health Hub and one of twelve CIHR Supported Embedded Researchers. Her program of work focuses on creating the conditions that allow learning and innovation to thrive in healthcare. This includes understanding what allows organizations to create the optimal conditions for learning, strategies for a sustainable and supported health workforce, and infusion of creativity and learning innovation in healthcare environments.
Particular interests within this field include cultivating Organizational Ambidexterity within the Learning Health System by balancing sustainability with innovation efforts, studying the intersection of leadership and innovation; and working in the fields of innovation co-design and evaluation to support learning and sustainability.
Dr. Bird’s methods expertise includes mixed and multi-methods projects, qualitative research, knowledge synthesis, and realist approaches. She engages patients and families, health system decision makers and leaders, as well as clinicians in her projects. Dr. Bird collaborates with colleagues nationally and internationally on projects generously supported by tri-council and other funding agencies.
