Jean-Louis Denis, PhD, is Professor at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, and Ontario Research Chair in Health Policy and System Design. His research program is located at the intersection of applied health services research, organizational studies and policy research. His research aims at developing a comparative and transdisciplinary perspective on large-scale health reforms and on transformations and improvement in health systems and organizations. Dr. Denis’ is an elected Member of the Academy of Social Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada (2002), Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2009), and Fellow of the UK Academy of Social Sciences (2019) in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the field of health policy and management.
Current research interest is on the transformation of health systems governance, leadership and governance of innovative organizational forms in health care including digitalized organizations, primary care reforms, the roles of professions in health reforms and improvement, and the organization of public health systems. His work has been published in top health policy and management journals like Journal of Health Economic, Policy and Law, Milbank Quarterly, Implementation Science, and Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law and in top management, public sector and policy journals like Human Relations, Organization Science, Public Administration, Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Annals and Policy and Society. He is co-editor of the Organizational Behaviour in Healthcare series at Palgrave.
