Tala El Tal is a Pediatric Rheumatologist in the Division of Dermatology/Rheumatology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa. She earned her medical degree in 2016 and completed her residency in pediatric and adolescent medicine at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 2019. She completed her paediatric rheumatology fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in June 2021, and then pursued a fellowship in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in children and adolescents at Sickkids as a recipient of the Geoff Carr Fellowship Award. Following this, She was awarded the Gary S. Gilkeson Career Development Award by the Lupus Foundation of America to continue to pursue work in neuropsychiatric (NPSLE), specifically examining the longitudinal prevalence of cognitive impairment and its relationship to disease and health-related quality of life in SLE. In addition, She completed her Masters in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) via the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) at the University of Toronto in June 2022, with an interest in improving routine mental health screening in rheumatology clinics. Tala’s additional interests is to continue to build on her clinical and academic activities in Rheumatology with special interests in lupus and QIPS.
