Dr. Samah Hassan, MD, MSc., PhD is a Scientific Associate I at the Toronto Health Economics and Technology Assessment (THETA), and an Assistant Professor (Status Only) at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME), University of Toronto. She is also the Manager of the Research Program at the Indigenous Diabetic Health Circle (IDHC), an Indigenous-led non-profit organization.

Dr. Hassan is a dedicated program evaluation researcher specializing in evaluating upskilling programs and healthcare interventions, focusing on systematically marginalized groups in Canada, including Indigenous communities. With a PhD in medical sciences and extensive experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, Dr. Hassan is determined to contribute to improving healthcare delivery and outcomes through rigorous realistic evaluation and analysis.

Her expertise lies in designing and implementing realistic evaluation frameworks tailored to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare programs and interventions within systematically marginalized groups, especially Indigenous communities. Dr. Hassan’s work is instrumental in identifying areas for improvement, optimizing resource allocation, and informing evidence-based decision-making within healthcare organizations serving Indigenous Peoples.

Committed to advancing the field of realistic program evaluation in healthcare, Dr. Hassan advocates for integrating culturally sensitive methodologies and technologies to enhance evaluation processes and outcomes. Her research interests include addressing health disparities, improving healthcare access, and implementing quality improvement initiatives specifically tailored to the needs of Indigenous communities in Canada.

As a passionate advocate for healthcare equity and quality, Dr. Hassan actively collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, including Indigenous community members and leaders, to co-design, implement, and evaluate interventions to improve health outcomes. Dr. Hassan’s work with Indigenous communities underscores her commitment to fostering collaborative approaches that honor Indigenous knowledge, culture, and self-determination in healthcare research and practice.
