Dr. Sandra McKay is a highly accomplished leader in home health care research and innovation. As Vice President, Research & Innovation at VHA Home HealthCare, she provides strategic and operational leadership, focusing on advancing home care science to inform policy and improve decision-making across health sectors.
With an extensive background in organizational and health services research, Dr. McKay is committed to making contemporary home care data accessible to enhance healthcare system performance. She leads a team of home care scientists investigating the organization, financing, management, and delivery of care. Her research addresses critical challenges, such as care transitions from hospital to home, optimizing care delivery in resource-constrained environments, and leveraging large administrative data sets for system improvement.
Dr. McKay has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and has secured more than $8 million in research funding as a principal and co-applicant. She is also dedicated to fostering the next generation of home care scientists, supervising multiple CIHR Health System Impact Fellows.
Beyond her role at VHA Home HealthCare, Dr. McKay holds several academic and research affiliations. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto, an Associate Professor at the Ted Rogers School of Business at Toronto Metropolitan University, an Affiliate Scientist at The Institute for Education Research (TIER) & The Michener Institute through the University Health Network, and an Adjunct Researcher at Michael Garron Hospital.
