Ron Sapsford has had a long career in health services management. He retired from the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Medical Association in 2015. Prior to his appointment, he served as Chief, Strategy with the OMA.
Ron has worked in the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care on three different occasions and has held the positions of Deputy Minister, Assistant Deputy Minister of Institutional and Community Services, Executive Director of the Institutional Division, Director Community Hospitals, Director Nursing Homes, and Area Planning Coordinator.
In the hospital community, he has held the positions of Executive Vice-president and Chief Operating Officer of Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation, and Vice-president, Teaching Hospitals and Chief Operating Officer with the Ontario Hospital Association.
He began his career in hospital management at Smith Falls and Owen Sound, and as Executive Director of the Grey-Bruce District Health Council.
He has served as a board member of the Canadian Institute of Health Information, Canada Health lnfoway, The Change Foundation, Michael Garron Hospital, Associated Medical Services, the National Advisory Board of the Salvation Army for Canada and Bermuda, Schlegel Health Care Inc. and the Grand Bend and Area Community Health Centre.
He is the recipient of the Trudeau Medal from the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa for outstanding graduates, and the Owen Adams Medal of Honour, awarded by the Canadian Medical Association; the highest award by the association to a non-physician for service to the profession.
Mr. Sapsford holds the degree of Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and Master of Health Administration from the University of Ottawa.
