Project focus areas range from the effects of stable housing on those experiencing severe mental illness to the health impacts of viral infections such as COVID-19, the flu, and RSV.
Of the projects, two exceeded $1 million in funding.
Dr. Rulan S. Parekh, faculty member at IHPME and Vice President, Academics, at Women’s College Hospital, was awarded $1,197,226 over five years to “advance the understanding of genetic risk and chronic kidney disease in a high-risk Zambian population.”
Dr. Avram Ezra Denburg, IHPME faculty affiliated with the Health Systems Research (HSR) program and staff oncologist and clinician-scientist at SickKids Hospital, was awarded $1,013,626 over five years to explore the effects of personalized cancer care on children, their families and healthcare workers. “This generous funding from CIHR will enable us to work in close and dedicated partnership with colleagues across the country to understand the value and impacts of precision oncology care from the perspective of children and their families, to ensure that innovative cancer diagnostics and therapeutics are implemented in sustainable, equitable, and patient-centred ways in Canada,” says Dr. Denburg.
“We are very proud of the CIHR Project Grants from IHPME. Your impactful research and hard work are driving crucial change and advancements in healthcare and health systems management. Congratulations to all the recipients for your contributions to improving health outcomes for all,” says Dr. Audrey Laporte, Director of IHPME.
