Climate Change & Sustainable Health Systems

Description

This course explores climate change and environmental sustainability from a health policy and health systems perspective.

Designed for master’s or doctoral students, the aim of the course is to increase awareness of the implications of global ecological change for population health and health equity, and to explore the potential for sustainable and resilient health systems in Canada and around the world.

Objectives

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Recognize the implications of climate change for population health and health equity
  • Understand the environmental impact of health services and systems
  • Understand the need for climate adaptation and the improved resilience of health services and systems
  • Develop an awareness of the principles of sustainable care, identify opportunities to improve the quality and appropriateness of care while reducing its environmental impact
  • Recognize opportunities and challenges arising in reform-oriented or transformative change toward sustainability
