Dr. Somayeh Abedian is a highly experienced professional in the fields of Medical and Health Informatics, Computer Engineering, and Information Technology Management. With a career spanning over 17 years, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence in various areas, including health informatics standards, health information systems data models, health systems functional evaluation, and electronic health record issues. Somayeh actively contributes to the development of Health Informatics standards in interoperability concept. Additionally, with nearly two decades of experience in education, she serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. In this capacity, she shares her wealth of knowledge with master’s of health Informatics students, imparting a deep understanding of Health Informatics intricacies.
In addition to her extensive experience, Dr. Abedian has authored or co-authored several publications that focus on healthcare information management at the national level. These publications, including books, articles, and conference papers, cover a wide range of topics. Some of the areas addressed in her work include ensuring the quality of EHR data, health data security and privacy, providing technical guidelines for EHR messages, discussing hospital information systems and monitoring, pre-hospital emergency information systems, and online monitoring systems in healthcare IS. She has also acquired teaching experience in the realm of healthcare information systems and medical informatics, mentoring numerous Master’s and PhD students in their thesis work.

Dr. Somayeh Abedian’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in IT Management with a specialization in Business Intelligence, a Master’s degree in Information Technology Management with a focus on Advanced Information Systems, and several bachelor’s degrees and diplomas in related fields.
During her career, she has occupied a range of roles, from serving as a Post-doc Researcher in Health Informatics to holding executive positions in the development of e-health systems in her country. Dr. Abedian has gained experience working at the IT & Statistic Center of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MOH) and the National Emergency Medical Services Organization for 17 years. In addition to her academic pursuits, she has taken on managing responsibilities for e-Health projects, serving as Deputy and Head of the Standard, Monitoring & Evaluation Office at the IT & Statistic Center of the Iranian MOH, as well as chairing the ICT center at the National Emergency Medical Services organization.
