Research Interests

The overarching goal of my research program is to become a national and international leader in outcomes research in cardiovascular imaging. This encompasses 4 different spheres: (1) comparative clinical effectiveness research, (2) resource utilization as applied to cardiovascular imaging, (3) Identification of imaging biomarkers and their link to downstream outcomes, and  (4) utilization of imaging parameters as outcome measures.

 Program of Research

My program of research consists of two foci that will help me reach my overarching research goal:

  • Cardiovascular imaging research, particularly in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR}: (1) to provide insights into mechanisms and management of disease states such as acute and chronic coronary artery disease and cardiomyopathy and (2) to help guide and plan cardiovascular interventions. Both (I) and (2) also encompass the clinical assessment of novel CMR sequences.
  • Cardiovascular health services and clinical epidemiology/outcomes research with a particular focus on resource utilization, assessment of appropriate use criteria and the assessment of value in healthcare.

Research Interests

Advanced cardiac imaging including advanced echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and cardiac computed tomography

Impact

National level:

a) I co-chaired a workshop on cardiovascular MRI at the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Annual Scientific Meeting in Montreal in October 2016 where some of my research was highlighted.

b) I was appointed Vice President of the Canadian Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CanSCMR). My role in this position consists of helping to co-ordinate national level multi-site research initiatives with a focus on enhancing imaging based outcomes research.

International level:

a) We were invited to prepare a poster summarizing the research foci of our group as well as our past accomplishments and impact for the 20th Annual Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scientific Session held in Washington, DC in February, 2017.

b) I was invited to co-write a book chapter focusing on CMR safety along with James White, an internationally renowned CMR cardiologist, based out of Calgary. This chapter has been submitted.
