Wagner H. Souza is a Canada Leads Scientist at the Surgical Artificial Intelligence Research Academy (SARA), The Institute for Education Research (TIER), at University Health Network (UHN). He is a physical therapist with expertise spanning neurorehabilitation and human factors, including sensorimotor-cognitive integration across physical and digital environments. He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at UFRN (Brazil) and his PhD in Neuroscience at McGill University (Canada).

Dr. Souza also received postgraduate education in orthopedic trauma rehabilitation at UFRN and in clinical research design and implementation at Harvard University (USA), in addition to extensive postdoctoral training focused on medical innovation at Western University (Canada), biomedical engineering applied to head and neck surgery at Johns Hopkins University (USA), and robotic neurorehabilitation at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – UHN (Canada). With over a decade of experience as a clinical scientist and educator, his research employs novel technologies to reliably promote inclusive, collaborative, and scalable healthcare solutions.
