Walter Tavares

PhD (McMaster University)

Walter's research program explores performance based assessment of clinical competence, with a particular focus on rater/observer contributions, philosophies of assessment and validity. The aim of his research is to evolve understanding of how these facets of assessment can and should shape practices in the real world. The ultimate goal of his research is to translate this understanding to best practices that promotes fair and appropriate processes when assessments are used for formative purposes and when used for decisions about who should be granted access to unsupervised clinical practice. Other interests include simulation, continuing professional development and models of care in prehospital environments.
