Admissions

Minimum Education

  • Successful applicants will have an excellent record of scholarship and an aptitude for health professions education research. Applicants will ideally have completed a thesis-based Master’s degree or be able to demonstrate equivalent research experience.
  • Applicants should have graduated from their Masters program with at least a B+ average.

International students – please refer to the International Credential Equivalency Chart to ensure that you meet the GPA requirement.


Documents

  1. Statement of Intent (please do not exceed 2 pages) that includes:
    • an outline of their research background; 
    • a statement of their interest in health professions education research;
    • a description of the specific areas of research they would like to pursue
  2. Curriculum Vitae 
  3. Transcripts (scanned copy). Only students that have been offered admission and accepted will need to provide original transcripts
  4. Writing Sample Applicants with a non-thesis master’s degree are also required to submit a writing sample in their application package (e.g. a published paper, an MRP (major research paper) from a course based Masters program

Supervisor

It is strongly recommended that you identify a potential supervisor (review Faculty Profiles and Research and Initiatives and communicate with potential supervisors that align with your research interests) as part of your application.  You will be asked to submit one or two names of potential supervisors.  Once your application is submitted, you are encouraged to continue to try to confirm a supervisor prior to the next phase of the application process.


Reference Letters

You are required to enter contact details for 2 referees in the application system. They will receive an email with a link to an online reference letter form. Your referees should speak to your preparation and competence to conduct research studies.
