Study Options

In order to make our research-based programs more accessible to students we have full-time and flex-time study. However, most classes are still held between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Students must declare their intentions to study full-time or flex-time when they apply, and cannot switch their status once the program begins.

Review the funding policy before applying.

Full time: 

Complete in 4 years

Full-time students pay full-time fees for the duration of their program and have up to six years to successfully complete the requirements of the degree.   

Full-time students devote a minimum of 5 full days/ week (40-60 hours) to studies, and take approximately 2 – 3 courses per term, completing all coursework by the end of Year 2 in the program.

Full-time students are eligible to receive the funding package.

Up to 6 years to complete the degree requirements (Candidacy, thesis proposal acceptance, must be achieved by the end of year 3)

Flex-time:

Complete in 6 years

Flex-time status provides greater flexibility in completing the degree requirements, and complements full time employment. 

Flex-time students pay full-time fees for the first four years of their program.   They can pay part-time fees for subsequent years after completing and submitting a program transfer form.

Flex-time students generally complete their program in 6 years, but have up to eight years to successfully complete the requirements of the degree. 

Flex-time students generally devote approximately 2 days/week to studies, and look to take about 1 – 2 courses per term, completing all coursework by the end of Year 3 in the program.

Flex-time students are not eligible to receive the funding package.

Up to 8 years  to complete the degree requirements (Candidacy, thesis proposal acceptance, must be achieved by the end of year 4)
