Rural and Indigenous Health Symposium

Join fellow health care researchers, policy analysts, and clinicians for a full day symposium to discuss some of the major challenges facing rural and Indigenous health care in Ontario. The symposium, a joint initiative between the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, looks to create an agenda for research and health system design in rural, Indigenous and northern communities.

Participants will hear from a number of panels of experts including:

• Dr. Suzanne Stewart Director of the Waakebiness-Bryce Institute for Indigenous Health
• Dr. Carrie Bourassa, Scientific Director CIHR Institute of Aboriginal People’s Health, who will address some of the major challenges facing Indigenous health in rural communities
• Dr. Gregory Marchildon of IHPME, & Director of the North American Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, who will speak to the health policy research agenda for rural and northern communities
• Dr. James Rourke, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland, who will discuss a rural road map of action, with a focus on capacity development and planning for rural, Indigenous and northern communities.
