Dr. Velmovitsky specializes in leveraging advanced digital health technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), Machine Learning, and mobile/wearable devices, to improve healthcare outcomes. He is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) at the University of Toronto and a Scientific Associate at the Centre for Digital Therapeutics, University Health Network (UHN).


His current research leadership focuses on the development and implementation of safe and compassionate AI-driven solutions tailored to clinical workflows and patient self-management, aiming to enhance outcomes, patient safety and quality of care for chronic conditions management (e.g., heart failure, diabetes, pediatric pain), behaviour change (e.g., vaping cessation, self-care), and mental health. Dr. Velmovitsky is also interested in projects and collaborations which explore novel use cases for LLMs within a healthcare context, such as summarization of clinical notes and patient education materials while minimizing information loss.
