Join the conversation on graduate student mental health at a panel discussion hosted by Grad Minds at the University of Toronto. The purpose of this workshop is to start a conversation about the feelings that students and emerging professionals may experience upon entry to graduate school or when embarking on a new endeavor following post-secondary education. In a society where there is a huge pressure to achieve, students may struggle with Impostor Phenomenon, also known as Impostor Syndrome. Students experiencing Impostor Phenomenon have an all-encompassing fear of being found out to not have what it takes, even if they have outwards signs of success. Students may feel like a ‘fraud’ or ‘not smart enough’ with a constant fear of getting caught by peers for not being smart enough. Grad Minds presents Impostor Phenomenon 101, a panel discussion meant to raise awareness of the risks involved in promoting fraudulent feelings, especially in students differing from the majority of their peers – whether by race, cultural background, gender, sexual orientation or some other characteristic. This workshop aims to make students aware of this syndrome and give them tips for overcoming it and gaining confidence in their professional and academic lives.
