Admissions

Minimum Education

Successful applicants will have an excellent record of scholarship and an aptitude for health services research. PhD applicants will have completed a thesis master’s degree or have equivalent research experience.

PhD applicants should have graduated from their master’s program with at least a B+ average.

International students – please refer to the International Credential Equivalency Chart to ensure that you meet the GPA requirement.

Applicants without a thesis-based master’s or relevant research experience are required to apply through the MSc program, and may be eligible for the MSc/PhD Transfer Program. If you are in this category you must state your interest in transferring to the PhD in the statement of intent.

Documents

  1. Statement of Intent (maximum two pages) that includes:
    • an outline of their research interests;
    • a statement of their interest in health services research;
    • and a description of the specific areas of research they would like to pursue.
  2. Applicants are also required to provide a Curriculum Vitae
  3. Transcripts (scanned copy). Only students that have been offered admission and accepted will be required to provide original transcripts.

Supervisor

It is strongly recommended that you identify a potential supervisor (review Faculty Profiles and Research and Initiatives and communicate with potential supervisors that align with your research interests) as part of your application.  You will be asked to submit one or two names of potential supervisors.  Once your application is submitted, you are encouraged to continue to try to confirm a supervisor prior to the next phase of the application process.

Reference Letters

You are required to enter contact details for two referees in the application system who can speak to your academic and research abilities. They will receive an email with a link to an online reference letter form.
