The IHPME Committee on the Environment, Climate Change and Sustainability
The Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) has a role to play in fostering environmental sustainability, due to the profound implications of climate change for population health and health systems, and the out-sized environmental impact of the health care sector.
IHPME has embarked on this initiative at a time when the University of Toronto has identified the environment, climate change and sustainability as issues of strategic importance. Our aim is to recognize and build on the work that is already being done with respect to sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of the health sector, by embedding such efforts into our core mission as an Institute.
We have created a strategic plan that will push us to achieve a series of goals on a yearly basis. Our overarching goal is to be part of the solution to the challenge of climate change and to work actively to support environmentally and socially sustainable health systems, the health of populations, and health equity.
